De acordo com a Polícia Militar Rodoviária, a carreta transitava no sentido leste, sentido Osvaldo Cruz (SP) a Parapuã, quando, por motivos desconhecidos, invadiu a a faixa contrária e, ao tentar voltar a direção, perdeu o controle do veículo e veio a tombar.
Neste momento, uma caminhonete que transitava no sentido contrário foi colidida lateralmente.
