Productivity or efficiency gains don't result in people working fewer hours, because there are always people in positions of power that will demand more work from others so they can get more money.

Its mostly about the imbalance between MoE maximalists and never-send-bitcoin HODLers and how incentives are sort of inside out: if you're a MoE maxi and do a lot of speed-and-replace, that means you have to keep a lot of dollars on hand to replenish while you're shopping at bitcoin-accepting merchants. and if the merchants hoard their btc and don't ever spend (and replace) it themselves, the MoE maxi is basically a liquidity provider with a close tie to the fiat system.
basically, circular economies can never be perfectly balanced and getting to a game theoretic equilibrium probably means a lot of thankless altruism and evangelizing on the part of the maxis

Ideologue bitcoiners are so hopelessly dumb about this... Governments collected taxes just fine when everything was run on cash. Hiding income and especially property from the taxman is not easy.
The governments of the world that are actually funding genocide – Russia, Iran, Qatar, etc. – are doing it even though their currencies are garbage and hardly anyone trusts them enough to loan them money.
Bitcoin doesn't fix this.

I read a lot of stablecoin whitepapers and I never could find a stablecoin that legitimately graduates from "trust-minimized peepee poopoo garbage with sprinkles on top" to "trustless." I don't think it's possible.
the closest I ever saw was an unpegged stablecoin whose contract stares at external uniswap USDT pairs before deciding how much ETH needs to be backing it so that it has enough volatility dampening to appear stable. the whole thing can't work in a vacuum. other attempts involve simple overcollateralization of things like USDC. if they don't allow centralized stables in the collateral, they lose their peg, so they just become USDC proxies. I wonder what will happen to freezeable USDC that is being used to prop up pretend decentralized stablecoins.
