There's two sides to it.. privacy and tech,
People who work in tech, usually use Linux, but keep a regular surveillance phone
People who are into privacy/crypto, usually get a degoogled phone first, but view Linux as too much hassle
But if you only got one and not the other, when your phone and PC sync instant message convos, it's irrelevant which half you're missing.

Yeah I think that's the way it was **supposed** to go. The manager called what I presume was her DM on speakerphone and he wasn't happy that she hadn't completed the training for her store. He was a little upset on that lol. He walked her through me ordering in front of a group of people and then realized it wasn't even an option on the screen and they needed updates to their terminals so then they just took my older and put it in their tablet as a total and cleared it that way. Overall wasn't a bad experience even with the fumbles.

Is anyone familiar with jailbreaking Kindles?
I have a Kindle Oasis (9th Gen) that my room mate is using. However, I want her to be able to keep on sideloading ebooks so I want to jailbreak it.
I tried jailbreaking it with WinterBreak: https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/WinterBreak/
I followed the instructions to the letter, double-checked I downloaded the correct archive that corresponds to my Kindle generation, deleted all files (including hidden caches) on the Kindle’s storage, made sure that the Kinde’s firmeware isn’t beyond the supported version range (5.16.2.1.1) but after disabling airplane mode and tapping the cart icon, it just loads the shop instead of executing the jailbreak.
Seems like I’ll have to try a factory reset next. Sigh.

I wonder how Samourai fans feel seeing their coordinator closed and without alternative and Wasabi becoming the quintessential privacy solution and tested by Lazarus Group.
Plus no post-mix tooling worries, no toxic change worries, multiple community hosted coordinators, and fantastic tools like payincoinjoin.
Curious also to see that Lightning is an excellent privacy tool, much more private than any privacy shitcoin and despised also by the creators of Samourai.
Nostr was also despised by the creators of Samourai, and now we have that some privacy tools like joinstr use it to coordinate coinjoin transactions, or Wasabi wallet to not depend on GitHub for software updates or even payjoin over nostr, or exchanges p2p over nostr....
It must be hard to have lived a lie.

I guess this location didn't finish updating their terminals and had to use a tablet PoS to process. District manager didn't seem happy about a store not following training deadlines while talking with manager but in her defense I doubt she handles PoS upgrades. 🤭

it's unquestionably a good product
daylight readable displays were a thing in the early days of TFT panels, i at one point owned an alcatel phone, with the buttons, but it had a reasonable sized transflective display on it similar to some of the daylight computer ones
i believe you can find devices with this kind of display for military and industrial uses, it's literally the same as regular LCD panels except the reflector is different in that it bounces more light from outside back upwards through the tft array... the tradeoff is the contrast is less and the colours are more washed out but you also don't need to turn on illuminators to see them under external light
i personally minimise my blue light exposure in general, this house i am in has nasty nasty ones mounted on the ceilings and walls but i avoid using them, i have a 620nm red LED light strip in my kitchen for most of the time of dark and all my display panels are always in a low blue setting... reminds me tho, i feel like i should try migrating to a better OS than the one i've got, it was chosen because it supports my video card but at the same time i have all kinds of problems with games, with the OLED having display garbage after waking up after sleeping and none of them allow me to set a full minimal blue setting at night time
but i did also pick up on the creepy hippy vibes of their marketing and if they aren't dedicated to privacy then yeah, no wonder they abandoned nostr, people here are pretty fussy about that

There is no explicit work flow for this yet. The quickest solution would be that a user just creates a station and posts it as a comment. This is seen as an intent to take care and maintain the station and the wavefunc pubkey deletes the seeded one.
Another possibility would be that a pubkey with a valid nip 05 for the url entered for the station website shows up with a station event and claims it. The wavefunc app is watching for such events and then deletes the claimed station automatically.

Love the device but I’m not very happy with their comms over all.
Android 16 is about to be released and they’re still stuck on Android 13.
No news about their Sol:OS 1.0 release that was supposedly to launch “early 2025”.
No one knows which Android version their Sol:OS 1.0 is supposed to be based on.
Last Android update shipped in December 2024.
Both orange keys are still useless a year after they released DC-1.
Privacy Policy situation is still unclear.
Their nostr presence doesn’t feel authentic.
The price was steep before they got hit by the tarrifs as well.
I hope they’ll make it but without some serious investment in software and better, more open communications, I’m not very hopeful for their future.
