Here are a couple reasons off the top of my head:
- moderation
i don't want to moderate kind 1's, but i want it to be public
- resources
i can run this relay on a very cheap server since it won't have to scale past the niche use case of code snippets (which could actually get pretty difficult if MCP servers start using this relay for agents, but at least i will only need to deal with increasing resources in that case)

nostr does seem anicdotally quieter, but, im also not on primal, or the big relays, or have worked to find new follows in a while.
so, the real answer is i dont know. what i do know is these charts dont include japan, dont include much of primal AND have been admittedly completely stuck (broken) for 4+ months at a time..
so promoting them as fact, it just annoys me. dont worry, its not just you, its everyone. the sheep sees a chart, they believe the chart.

It's like NIP-45 Counts but allows you to reduce filtered zap amounts to based on some function like:
- sum
- avg
- min
- max
- count
relays that implement this nip will allow the client to just ask for the sum of all zaps rather than streaming all of the zaps and summing on the client.

If you think that design is just "looking nice" you are severely underestimating its potential, especially when paired with product management. A technically robust feature that no one uses because it is not accessibile, doee not exist. A lot of interesting open source software unfortunately do not exist.

But I suppose the same concept applies to marketers, product managers, content creators, etc.
To be honest, sometimes opensource developers, controlling the most valuable part of the project (the code), create a fence around themselves, thinking that what they do in the non-core areas (often design) is just enough, and so they ship mediocre products. This happens only because they do not apply the 20% rule; learning other skills would be enough to highlight the limitations of the current situation and create the urgency to seek help.

As a project that is run by Nostriches for Nostriches, we at #GitCitadel are proud of our humble, zap-based financing, especially over our Geyserfund (https://geyser.fund/project/gitcitadel). It's been mildly painful, and we've had to learn to pinch each sat until it cries for mercy. But it has definitely been the right source of funding for a project in this incubation stage, where we tentatively brood and hatch out our first baby, Project #Alexandria.
HOWEVER,
we regularly receive questions about how we plan on having a more sustainable source of funding, and one of our main ideas, is to cover the costs of our relays with a relay subscription that nostr:npub10npj3gydmv40m70ehemmal6vsdyfl7tewgvz043g54p0x23y0s8qzztl5h is managing for us. The current subscription of 300 sats/month (which some of you have been grandfathered into), will get you write-access to the relay. It is a great help for us, if you actively subscribe to wss://theforest.nostr1.com in your client, and include it in your outboxes and inboxes.
This access will become interesting soon, once the publishing feature is opened up, and even more interesting, once we get comments, highlights etc. going. Alexandria is a community-first client, and theforest is our community relay for the https://next-alexandria.gitcitadel.eu instance, so anything written to that relay will receive pride-of-place in the client. Because we know and trust our own community members, we're displaying "the full global", so this relay is a great way to immediately make contact with other npubs, even if you are new to Nostr.
We are also working on the ability to offer premium relay subscriptions, and we'll announce those, once we get the features going that they will unlock.

yes, the hardest part was finding a good rich text editor to integrate well with react native but with dom components this editor should translate pretty nicely to mobile. i'll work on a mobile client once cross platform encrypted sync is implemented on the desktop.

probably the reply should also be restricted and only be sent to the same relay the restricted root post came from, or it will look weird when others can see your reply but can’t fetch the root.
But it will be messy and you don’t know if you have write access to that relay, maybe restricted posts shouldn’t have replies at all

I still see this as an experimental project overall, one of my biggest issues has been trying to decide what to do with relays, with multiple columns you can just have the user decide what relays they want to read from per column.

Hi Five! Sure no problem here's some answers for ya:
1. This is correct, as is, there is no request/invite to join other than the lightning flow at this time. If you set a price and turn lightning payments on, this will prevent spammers and allow friends to join via that method without you having to approve each one. You can always remove the pubkeys afterward if someone joins that you did not want.
2. I can do rename requests manually if the name is available, it's not a feature in the UI.
3. Yes, you can delete posts by using the relay explorer page, when you click on an event you should see a "sign in" button, and if you sign in as moderator you'll see 3 buttons for admin actions, one is delete.

Hey there, I am new to relay-tools can you please enlighten me:
1. There is no "async" join at the moment - ie I see no option for people to request joining and then I would be reviewing join requests. For people I havent whitelisted therefore joining is automatically refused. I wonder if this feature belongs in clients like flotilla or relay-tools
2. Can a relay be renamed?
3. Can I delete posts from my relay ? I only saw moderation as black/whitelists but I would like to have fine-grained control and be able to delete after the fact

Your posts will get time-stamped and signed locally on the device you are logged in with your nostr keys. Then you send them to any number of relays. Relays will decide if or for how long they will store your note. So if you need to store your notes for a long time you could use a paid relay, to make sure they keep your notes around. Or you could run your own relay, if you really want to be sure about notes not disappearing
