Trainer Francesco Farioli heeft afgelopen woensdagavond laat besloten om te stoppen als trainer bij Ajax. De Amsterdammers speelden die avond uit bij FC Groningen in de 99ste minuut nog gelijk (2-2), waardoor PSV naar de koppositie in de eredivisie sprong.
"Francesco appte mij 's avonds vanuit de bus: joh, laten we morgen even samen zitten met elkaar", zegt technisch directeur Alex Kroes. "Toen vertelde hij aan Menno (directeur Geelen, red.) en mij dat hij ernstige twijfels had of hij wel door moest gaan."
Technisch directeur Alex Kroes beaamt dat het een apart moment was om die twijfels te uiten. Er was immers zondag nog één wedstrijd te spelen om de titelstrijd.
Maar de directeur begrijpt Farioli wel. "Ik denk dat hij een beslissing wilde nemen ongeacht het resultaat."
Maandagochtend kondigde de Italiaanse coach via een persbericht zijn daadwerkelijke vertrek aan. Farioli stelt dat de directie en hij verschillen van inzicht over de manier waarop ze volgend jaar te werk willen gaan.
"Mijn besluit heeft niks te maken met de titelstrijd", zegt Farioli zelf. "Maar ik voel dat dit de beste keuze is, vooral voor de club."
Emotionele dag
Farioli staat de NOS met droge ogen te woord. Maar hij verzekert: "Ik ben pas een paar minuten geleden gestopt met huilen. Ik heb de spelers vanochtend om 10.00 uur ingelicht. Het is een erg emotionele dag. Ik had niet verwacht dat ik zeven à acht uur op rij zou huilen. Met iedereen, met alle spelers, met de technische staf, de medische staf, de chefs in de keuken."
"Ik houd van deze club, en ik weet waar de club heen wil", zegt de 36-jarige Farioli. "Alex en ik zijn erg ambitieus, op dezelfde manier. Het pad dat Ajax nu bewandelt zou ook perfect bij mijn carrière passen, met Champions League-voetbal volgend seizoen en grote verwachtingen omtrent het kampioenschap."
Farioli: "Die doelen wilde ik graag aanpakken, maar ik moet ook eerlijk zijn tegen mezelf. Ik geloof dat sommige stappen heel snel genomen moeten worden. Daarin verschillen we van mening en ik had niet het gevoel dat die verschillen overbrugbaar waren."
Of hij geen spijt van zijn beslissing zal krijgen? "Nee, ik zou graag blijven, maar dat is onmogelijk."
Niet tevreden
De Italiaan wenst niet in detail te treden over welke verschillen er dan precies leven tussen hem en de directie. Maar afgelopen seizoen al zou hij niet tevreden zijn geweest met de aankopen. Zo was hem in de zomer een linksbuiten beloofd. Die kwam pas in februari: Oliver Edvardsen van Go Ahead Eagles.
Ook moest het topsportklimaat bij Ajax drastisch worden verbeterd. Het tempo waarin dat gebeurde, kon hem niet bekoren. Zo werd er pas eind vorig jaar een hoofd topsport aangesteld.
De verschillen in inzicht zaten 'm dan ook vooral in het tempo waarop Farioli wenst te werken, zegt directeur Kroes. Daarover zijn eerder gesprekken gevoerd; Farioli uitte al vaker zijn twijfels.
"Er is een nieuwe realiteit bij Ajax, we kunnen soms niet sneller dan dat je zou willen", aldus Kroes. "Diep van binnen wil ik dat natuurlijk ook: ik wil ook het liefst volgend jaar in de halve finales van de Champions League spelen. Maar sommige dingen kunnen niet, hoe hard we ons best ook doen."
Kleur op de wangen
Desondanks lukte het Farioli om Ajax dit jaar weer kleur op de wangen te geven. Na het dramatisch verlopen vorige seizoen, waarin de club als vijfde eindigde, streden de Ajacieden weer mee om het kampioenschap. Het doel werd bovendien bereikt: kwalificatie voor de Champions League, en daarmee het binnenhalen van de zilvervloot: 50 miljoen euro aan inkomsten.
Farioli's vertrek, tot "zijn grote verdriet", is een beslissing met zijn verstand. "Want met mijn hart zou ik deze club nooit verlaten. Ik houd van deze club. Ik zal nooit meer in Nederland werken als het niet bij Ajax is. Dat zegt denk ik genoeg over de liefde en respect die ik voel voor deze club en de supporters in Amsterdam."

A cada nova eleição, renovamos a esperança de que algo mude, apenas para vermos os mesmos rostos, os mesmos discursos vazios e, pior, os mesmos escândalos se repetirem como um ciclo interminável. O Brasil tornou-se refém de um sistema político que se alimenta da ignorância de seu povo e da impunidade garantida por leis que protegem mais os criminosos do colarinho branco do que os cidadãos honestos.
Mas talvez a maior decepção esteja no próprio povo brasileiro. Um povo que se orgulha de sua “malandragem”, que celebra a vantagem indevida, que acha “esperto” quem burla regras e impostos, mas se revolta quando é vítima do mesmo sistema que ajuda a perpetuar. Um povo que, diante da desordem, prefere justificar o erro com o clássico “todo mundo faz” em vez de ser a mudança que tanto cobra. É triste reconhecer, mas o famoso “jeitinho brasileiro” não é um traço simpático de criatividade; é a raiz de muitos dos nossos males, a normalização da pequena corrupção diária que, em escala, forma o grande abismo em que vivemos.
Na educação, assistimos a um fracasso coletivo. Professores desvalorizados, escolas sucateadas, um sistema de ensino que mais forma rebanhos de repetidores de ideologias do que cidadãos críticos e preparados para o mundo. Investir em educação de qualidade parece ser uma ameaça ao status quo, porque um povo educado questiona, cobra, exige. E o Brasil não está preparado para lidar com um povo assim.
Na segurança pública, o Brasil em um verdadeiro estado de guerra civil não declarada. Cidades sitiadas por facções criminosas, zonas rurais abandonadas à própria sorte, e uma polícia que, muitas vezes, mais assusta do que protege. O cidadão de bem vive encarcerado atrás de grades, enquanto o criminoso goza de liberdade e proteção de leis frouxas. A impunidade é a regra, e a sensação de que a vida humana perdeu valor é cada vez mais evidente.
E mesmo com todos esses problemas escancarados, há uma apatia coletiva assustadora. O brasileiro aprendeu a sobreviver na adversidade e, por isso, normalizou a desgraça. O caos virou paisagem. Enquanto outros países discutem avanços tecnológicos, energias renováveis e soluções para problemas globais, nós no Brasil ainda debatemos questões básicas como saneamento, vacinação e combate à fome.
Diante desse cenário, a decisão de partir do Brasil não é um ato de covardia, mas de sobrevivência emocional e intelectual. É o grito silencioso de quem cansou de nadar contra a correnteza da mediocridade, da violência, da desilusão. É a busca por um ambiente onde a meritocracia seja mais do que um discurso vazio, onde o respeito às leis não seja exceção, onde a honestidade não seja motivo de chacota.
Eu desisti do Brasil porque me recuso a aceitar que este seja o único destino possível. Porque cansei de esperar por um futuro que nunca chega, de investir em um país que parece sabotar seus próprios filhos. Desisti porque entendi que a verdadeira pátria não é um pedaço de terra, mas um lugar onde podemos viver com dignidade, respeito e esperança real. E, por mais doloroso que seja admitir, esse lugar, infelizmente, não é mais aqui.

Não tenho como discordar, em essência, do texto, até porque tomei a decisão de deixar o país há uma década e hoje sou um cidadão americano. Mas somos brasileiros, e brasileiros não desistem nunca! Por isso sigo na luta por um Brasil melhor. Nem todos os políticos são iguais, e basta comparar os quatro anos do governo Bolsonaro com essa porcaria petista que trouxe de volta os escândalos de corrupção.
Em 2026 vamos renovar mais de 50 cadeiras do Senado. É ali que está a mais importante batalha. O Senado tem sido hoje, principalmente nas figuras de seus presidentes Rodrigo Pacheco e agora Davi Alcolumbre, cúmplice do sistema podre e carcomido que tomou o poder de assalto e vem impondo um estado de exceção ao país. Se quisermos começar a mudar esse país para valer, então é preciso eleger bons senadores. Ou então cada vez mais gente vai adotar essa mentalidade descrita pelo ChatGPT...
