If we rename satoshis as “bitcoin,” we’re not simplifying—we’re redefining. We go from 21 million bitcoin to 2.1 quadrillion. And suddenly the price goes from $105,000 to $0.00105.
Now imagine explaining that to the world. Imagine trying to sell the idea of digital scarcity and hard money, while Bitcoin appears to have a higher supply than most memecoins. That’s not just confusion—it’s narrative collapse.
And the irony? Many of the loudest voices pushing this change claim to be maximalists. They fight memecoins by turning Bitcoin into one—on paper. A cheap, inflated, ultra-high-supply token indistinguishable from what we’ve spent years trying to distance ourselves from.
You say it’ll be a nothingburger in a week.
I say it will permanently fracture the mental model of the greatest monetary meme ever created.
21 million is not cosmetic. It’s the core.
You don’t throw that away just to sell the illusion that Bitcoin is still cheap.

The bitcoin bubble this cycle will be most pronounced in stocks and all the tradefi leveraged shineigans going on
the emergence of so called "treasury companies" is a sure sign of froth in markets - traditionally companies try to create value, but these companies are basically arbitrage on the premium tradefi is paying (remember gbtc premium?) - but this can quickly turn into discounts and liquidations and mass panic
Bitcoin always sniffs out this kind of stuff and destroys them eventually

I’ve tested entering Gab using 20+ different Proton IPs, not a single one worked. Proton’s ‘Stealth’ protocol, which was supposed to fight VPN blocks, also doesn’t work.
If Gab, a fairly small platform, is able to successfully detect our VPNs with perfect accuracy, and effectively block it entirely, then what stops every other site and big tech from doing the same? This is a worrying trend for online privacy.

Never heard the term "naksc before but I like it. The notion that we might need to subdivide sats one day has occurred to me. I guess I thought we'd come up with some type of an L2 solution by the time we need that. Or, maybe some type of bitvm solution might be viable if we ever un-ossify. Lots of discussion will take place no doubt. Get popcorn to discuss corn. 🍿 🌽

With the current argument of whether we should rename sats to #bitcoin happening...what happens when we need to further subdivide the current 21m bitcoins/2.1q sats?
At some point we are going to need to introduce a further value subdivision. This is a modification that seems to work well within the current bitcoin-sat paradigm. Something like
1 sat = 100,000 "naks/bits".
("naks" = nakamoto)
2.1q sats = 210 sextillion naks/bits
21m bitcoins = 2.1q sats
If we replace sats for bitcoins as the only unit denomination now, this unit expansion is still inevitable and necessary in the future and re-introduces the issues that renaming sats to bitcoins is trying to fix right now.
So is it really worth the change? I do grant that having only bitcoin as the unit name is cleaner and simpler but I also think that it is not considering the requirements of reality when it comes to monetary unit nomenclature. When we have to expand in the future, will the value of the unit of a bitcoin have to change for a third time making monetary re-evaluation and recalibration necessary. Would this not be more confusing?
