The team, which had lost to Atlético-MG, 3-2, in Minas Gerais, was content with the away point. The result took the team to 14 points. Juventude, who started coach Cláudio Tencati in place of Fábio Matias, who was sacked, broke a three-game losing streak, but has not won in six rounds and remains in the relegation zone. Despite being away from home, Fluminense started the game with more enthusiasm on the field. They dominated the opponent and had more possession of the ball throughout the first half. They had two precious chances to open the scoring. The first came with a shot from Everaldo, which goalkeeper Gustavo managed to palm away and clear the ball, at 16 minutes. The second came soon after, when Everaldo headed the ball and Martinelli finished, but the ball exploded off the crossbar and the defense cleared. The atmosphere became heated in the final minutes after a dispute between Juventude's Reginaldo and Fluminense's Serna. The argument extended to the locker room at halftime, with the referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio intervening. Reginaldo and Gabriel Fuentes received yellow cards. The game remained intense, but Juventude finally created danger in attack and scored its goal at 9 minutes. Batalla, from the edge of the area, shot, Freytes, the defender, tried to clear with his head, but sent the ball into the left corner of the net. Fluminense reacted quickly, at 12 minutes. Hércules passed to Everaldo and inside the area shot strongly. Gustavo parried and Hércules jumped and headed the ball to equalize the score: 1-1. A heavy rain served to cool the tempers of both teams. The game pace slowed down, even though Fluminense lost its offensive strength, despite some substitutions made by Renato Gaúcho, and Juventude seemed to prefer not to lose rather than risk winning. At 37 minutes, Samuel Xavier was sent off for committing a foul near the area on Gabriel Taliari. The fullback was already in the locker room when the VAR alerted the referee to a handball by Taliari in the early stages of the game. Samuel returned and helped Fluminense withstand the pressure in the final minutes. For the 10th round of the Brasileirão, Juventude will play against Red Bull Bragantino in São Paulo on Monday, November 26. Two days earlier, on Saturday, November 24, Fluminense will play the classic against Vasco, at the Maracanã. Before that, the team will play against Aparecidense-GO in the Copa do Brasil on Wednesday, November 21, at Mané Garrincha Stadium, in Brasília (DF). This will be the return match of the third phase, as Fluminense won 1-0 in the first leg, in Rio. Now, they advance with a draw.
