上田千曲高校（上田市）の生活福祉科３年生１６人が１４日、地元の高齢者宅を訪問し、無料で困り事や要望に応える「レンタル高校生プロジェクト」に取り組んだ。草取りや障子張り、窓ふきを通して高齢者が抱える課題の解決策を探った。
地元の城下地域包括支援センターが同校近くの高齢者の要望を募った。高校生は２～３人の６チームに分かれて訪問。同市中之条の川村史子(ちかこ)さん（８２）は、手が届かない台所の出窓の掃除や窓ふきを依頼した。高齢化している友人や人材不足と聞くシルバー人材センターに依頼するのが難しくなり、自身も肺が弱くて掃除中のほこりで息苦しくなることに悩んでいたという。
歯ブラシで窓枠の掃除に励んだ本道涼心(りこ)さん（１７）は「ぴかぴかにきれいになると私も幸せ」。清掃後に台所を見た川村さんは「とてもきれい」と拍手し、「快適に過ごせそう。来てくれてありがとう」と感謝した。
同プロジェクトは２０２３年度から続けている。宮沢萌乃果(ほのか)さん（１７）は「この活動が高齢者の心と体の健康にもつながると発信していきたい」。堀内真生(まお)さん（１７）は「ＳＯＳを出せない人が悩みを相談できる場所も必要だと感じた」と話していた。
