Israël is begonnen met een nieuw grootschalig offensief in de Gazastrook. Dat heeft het leger aan het einde van de avond bekendgemaakt, na een dag van intensieve aanvallen in Noord-Gaza vanuit de lucht, vanaf zee en op de grond.
Experts zeggen dat het nieuwe offensief vooral tot doel heeft om Gaza in te nemen. In Noord-Gaza werden gisteren vanuit de lucht flyers verspreid waarin staat dat de bevolking het gebied onmiddellijk moet verlaten. Premier Netanyahu zei afgelopen week dat Israël "de komende dagen op volle kracht de operatie zal voltooien om Hamas te verslaan."
Het leger zegt op X dat er de afgelopen 24 uur grootschalige aanvallen zijn uitgevoerd en troepen zijn ingezet om "strategische gebieden" in de Gazastrook in te nemen. Bij die aanvallen zijn zeker 108 mensen in Gaza gedood. Volgens de verklaring vormt het offensief het begin van pogingen om de gijzelaars in Gaza vrij te krijgen en de vernietiging van Hamas.

I have been learning and building Linux, SYS-admin work, AI and general networking for some months now.
Seeing how disconnected my friends and family are from technology worries me.
My parents and grandparents struggle to open and navigate websites and apps, understand things like QR codes and AI, and just generally avoid technology whenever they can.
My friends struggle with not giving Amazon, google and Microsoft every piece of telemetry and choose convenience over self sovereignty at every opportunity.
The more I learn, the more I am worried that people aren’t more aware of how much control and abuse goes on in technology, and the disconnect will only get worse and worse.

Maybe we could compromise and call 100 sats a bit. That would give everyone the two decimal placed that they are accustomed to, everywhere in the world.
A sat could be 1/100th of a bit. And Bitcoin will only refer to the technology as a whole, not a unit.
I don't think the 2 billion people that know about bitcoin will be confused by the change, or seeing the price suddenly drop by 1,000,000x when an exchange updates their terminology.
While we are at is should probably make a Satoshi equal 100 bits too. It makes sense to make these changes at the same time. So it'd be like a $100 bill. Everyone in the world is familiar with an American $100 bill, and this would give the creator more respect than getting the tiniest unit.
Besides, having two terms to refer to the same thing (sats/satoshis) is more confusion than people could possibly handle. Imagine using quid and pounds interchangeably, or bucks and dollars. It'd never work!
I look forward to helping clear the confusion about how much a bitcoin costs, is worth, and explaining to the tax man that you bought 0.1 bitcoin for $10,000 and then sold 10000 bitcoin for $10. Obviously they'll get it.
