OP_RETURN is not the problem.
The problem are filters to avoid spam on blockchain.
So OP_RETURN could be used for a cleaner way to store extra datas, but a lot of node don't want theses datas on the blockchain anymore.

If you own property you can collect rent, if you own stocks you can collect a dividend, if you only own Bitcoin you can do what ? Put it on a dodgy exchange promising you ‘yield’?
Assuming you wanted to do this in the not too distant future what are your options?

I can't stop wondering why it works so well.
Even people way more intelligent than me have a hard time seeing or accepting it.
I have two points in time I always go back to.
That one 'strange' sociology teacher when I was ~16 years old who told us how loans and mortgages work and how insane that was.
And a few years later during economics where a teacher was encouraging me when I tried to counter every policy of the Keynesian theory, arguing with the exact opposite effect that could happen.
We made a game out of it, and during the examen I answered every question two fold and those were opposite of each other, I got a maximum score.
The financial crisis finally made me conclude every one was 'crazy' and that I wanted out.
#Bitcoin made everything come together and made it possible to step out.

Because Reasons, I spent a bit of time yesterday guesstimating the split of my essential to discretionary spending.
This was as tedious as it sounds, but it throws up some interesting questions. Things like fabric for quilts and electricity are easy to categorise, but then you get on to dog food: obviously I have to feed the dog, but actually owning a dog?
And then the ducks, obviously not essential but if I didn’t have them then my food bill (essential) would be higher.
Three years ago, I spent £20 on asparagus crowns: obviously not essential. But then again I’ve probably had £10 worth of asparagus off them this year (so far). But then again again, spending £10 on a couple of bunches of early season asparagus is obviously not essential, when I could buy a bag of carrots for 50p.
It’s possible I am over-thinking the exercise.

🚨 BREAKING: Teen footballer Cerys Vaughan has WON her appeal after being banned for asking a bearded trans player: “Are you a man?”
The FA’s case against her was thrown out after a damning ruling exposed a flawed and unfair process — one that left 17-year-old Cerys in tears.
We’re proud to say: we made her victory possible. The Free Speech Union funded Cerys’s legal team, including a top-tier barrister, and supported her family through months of Kafkaesque disciplinary proceedings. It’s thanks to that support that she was able to fight back — and win.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling that “woman” means biological female under the Equality Act, the FA has now U-turned, scrapping its transgender inclusion policy: from June, males will be barred from the female game. That’s the right decision — but it comes too late for girls like Cerys, who were punished under speech codes that should never have existed. Female players in single-sex football leagues should never have been forced to compete against men, given how much stronger, faster and more physically aggressive male players are, on average. For a teenage girl to receive a six-game ban simply for asking whether an opposing player was a man was a grotesque injustice — and we’re proud to have helped her get the decision overturned.
Cerys is one of nearly 4,000 people we've supported since 2020 — people who got into trouble for saying something perfectly lawful.
