Apenas uma rodada de votação será realizada nesta quarta. Alguns desses votos do pleito inaugural são simbólicos, oferecidos como gestos de respeito ou amizade antes que a votação mais séria comece no dia seguinte.
Como são necessários dois terços (ou 89) dos votos dos 133 eleitores, a escolha de um papa "de primeira" é altamente improvável.
O primeiro dia, porém, pode apontar os nomes que se sobressaem entre as correntes políticas do Vaticano, impulsionando ou enterrando candidaturas.
De acordo com a própria Santa Sé, a única fumaça do dia — provavelmente na cor preta preta — deverá sair por volta das 14h, no horário de Brasília.
Cardeais esperam conclave rápido para demonstrar unidade da Igreja
A duração média dos últimos 10 conclaves foi de 3,2 dias, e nenhum durou mais de cinco. As duas últimas eleições — em 2005, quando o Papa Bento XVI foi escolhido, e em 2013, quando Francisco emergiu vencedor — foram concluídas em apenas dois dias.
O conclave ocorre ao longo de quantas rodadas de votação forem necessárias. Se os cardeais da Igreja Católica não tiverem escolhido um novo papa até o terceiro dia do conclave, então as coisas não estarão saindo como planejado.
Conclaves curtos, encerrados em poucos dias, projetam uma imagem de unidade, e a última coisa que os cardeais de vestes vermelhas querem é dar a impressão de que estão divididos e que a Igreja está à deriva após a morte do Papa Francisco, no mês passado.
Caso a fumaça branca não saia em três dias, as votações serão interrompidas por 24 horas para que os cardeais tenham um período de oração e reflexão.

O Ministério Público do Rio Grande do Sul (MPRS) denunciou à Justiça o motorista que atropelou um grupo de pessoas em Bento Gonçalves, na Serra do Rio Grande do Sul, no dia 2 de março. Na ocasião, uma mulher morreu e outras três pessoas ficaram feridas.

Nathanael Jochem Keller, de 22 anos, responde por homicídio doloso e três tentativas de homicídio, com qualificadora de recurso que dificultou a defesa das vítimas. (Qualificadora é uma circunstância do crime que agrava a pena.)
O g1 entrou em contato com a defesa de Keller, mas não obteve retorno até a publicação desta matéria. Anteriormente, a advogada Angélica Zappas afirmou que o seu cliente "jamais teve a intenção de matar alguém" e que o motorista "tentou frear, não conseguiu a tempo e acabou batendo nas pessoas que estavam no meio da rua". A investigação policial aponta que ele teria fugido do local sem prestar socorro.
De acordo com o promotor de Justiça Damasio Sobiesiak, o jovem teria saído de uma casa noturna antes do atropelamento. Segundo o MP, ele estaria acompanhado de outros passageiros no veículo.
"O veículo utilizado como instrumento do crime foi jogado contra as vítimas em duas oportunidades sequenciais, mesmo tendo o denunciado campo de visão aberto e iluminado, não havendo possibilidade alguma de não ter visto as quatro vítimas. Por isso, a conclusão de que os delitos foram dolosos", disse o promotor.
Keller se entregou à polícia de forma voluntária ainda no mês de março. Em versão dos fatos à polícia, ele afirmou que não teve a intenção de atropelar as vítimas.
Quatro pessoas foram atropeladas
O caso aconteceu na Rua Ciro Cini, no bairro Santa Rita, na madrugada do dia 2 de março, domingo de Carnaval.
Imagens de câmeras de monitoramento mostram o momento em que o condutor avança na direção do grupo de pessoas que estava caminhando pela via, na madrugada.
Na sequência, o motorista para por alguns segundos e, então, acelera novamente, atropelando a mulher, que já estava caída, pela segunda vez. (Veja vídeo acima).
Sandra Letícia de Carli, de 46 anos, chegou a ser socorrida mas morreu no hospital. Os demais tiveram ferimentos e receberam atendimento médico.

"Como eu já havia informado, Nathanael se apresentaria no momento oportuno, então a defesa vem a público informar que ele se apresentou na data de hoje de forma espontânea. A apresentação não ocorreu antes devido às graves ameaças de morte que ele vinha recebendo, o que fez com que a defesa tivesse que tomar as providências cabíveis para pelo menos tentar apresentá-lo de forma segura.
A defesa reforça novamente que Nathanael jamais teve a intenção de matar alguém, conforme foi informado desde o início. Afinal, Nathanael tentou frear, não conseguiu a tempo e acabou batendo nas pessoas que estavam no meio da rua. Neste momento, uma das vítimas foi até a janela do veículo para tirar satisfações com ele.
Os amigos de Nathanael desceram do carro, deixando-o sozinho, e várias pessoas começaram a se aglomerar ao redor do veículo. Logo após, uma outra vítima vem da frente do carro e tenta tirar a chave de ignição do veículo de Nathanael, momento em que ele fica apavorado e acelera para sair do local.
Importante mencionar que Nathanael não viu que ainda existiam pessoas no chão. Nesse sentido, a defesa reforça que Nathanael jamais teve a intenção de matar alguém e se apresentou de forma espontânea, pois não deixará de cumprir o que for determinado pela Justiça."
