i have discovered something new that LLMs can do very well - generating code based on well established algorithms.
so this means i can skip a lot of the error-prone stuff i have done in the past making this kind of thing.
right now i'm making a generic number type that will be used to implement a parameterizable variable length, BIG ENDIAN binary encoded number for numbers in database keys, with full lexicographic ordering properties and that swallow any type of integer and encode it correctly. i guess it will need a parameter for signed and a parameter for binary length.
i think i have everything i need in the base number and slice of number types it has made me, now i just need to create a codec type to use them. this will also be usable for compact and parameterizable value bytes. i'm not going to use that for the full text inverted indexes tho, i think although it uses more space having these exist solely in the key log makes it simpler to implement search, in that a collection of event serials that have the word "the" in them would become extremely slow to decode but as a big long collection of unique keys would iterate fast using the bisection or whatever seek function it uses.
