It's checked against an organisational domain server, like an e-mail server, rather than a list of npubs. Npubs who show up with a particular domain get categorized for everyone looking at the client, and the community client defines which domains are significant. You could even change the interface depending upon which domain they belong to. It's a group adherance.
Badges are for roles. They signify something about some particular person, within a community or across communities.
You can use either for both, or split them up.

Yes but when number go down for a bit, that's just optimizing and also people taking a chill break. I'm using nostr every day recently because of the quality connections and information. If the quantity of other people go down, I don't much care. It's hugely succeeding. It would be nice if lots of other people used freedom tech, but they're not ready to yet. They need a streamlined on boarding to get situated and to not have to think too much about spam and stuff. The only people missing are the remnant of the centralized platforms who would love nostr if only they heard about it. That's the only thing I would say might be bad about this situation, taking into account how normies function.

a great example is chat, btw. having a chat window in a side panel is so neat for collab, with a 4k display and sharing quarter sections of the rest of the screen.
there are so few really good UI designs in production unfortunately. i hate windows but the windows 8 paning system is so intuitive

in my experience, the functional model of "hooks" is the best for simplifying and modularising especially concurrent applications, while hiding all that scheduling away from the implementer.
go's http library has to be one of the easiest libraries i've ever used in my life. the complicated parts more lie in the more complicated parts of the HTTP spec, like query/path/body parameters and suchlike. for that, huma is the way to go. not only is it easy to build endpoints with it, it exposes the openapi 3.1 spec document and you can easily load in a custom docs UI as well, which you've seen.
