1. 政府开支的“生产性贡献”
政府开支是强制将资源从私人生产者处转移到政府官员偏好的用途。习惯上我们将政府开支分为两个范畴：资源使用型和转移支付型。资源使用型开支直截了当地将资源从社会中的私人转移为政府使用。转移支付则纯粹是补贴性开支。
这里的相似性大于差异。因为就两者而言，资源都是从私人生产者那里征收，然后转移到政府官员认为最好的用途当中。
在经济的“私人部门”，生产性产出的价值，可以用消费者自愿对此产出花费的货币数量明确地判定出来。相反，奇怪的是，政府的“生产性产出”不是根据人们对政府的开支，而竟然是根据政府本身的开支来判定的！难怪总是有冠冕堂皇的说法，鼓吹政府开支独特的生产性力量，仅凭政府开支增加，就可以提升政府对经济的“生产性贡献”。
即便有人反对说，政府服务是有点价值的，但我们也应当注意，这又犯了巴斯夏指出的错误：只强调看得见的，而忽略了看不见的。我们也许看到政府的水电大坝在运转；但我们看不见私人本会用这些钱做的事情——不论是购买消费者财货还是投资生产者财货——他们不得不因税收而放弃。
事实上，由于私人消费者本会用这笔钱去做另外的事，他们更想做的事，因此从他们的角度看更有生产力，我们可以肯定，政府的税收和开支所造成的生产力损失大于它所贡献的任何生产力。简言之，严格意义上讲，政府的生产力非但不是零，而且还是负的，因为它给社会强加了生产力损失。
投资开支的一个特征是，相关财货并不用满足投资者的需求，而是用于满足他人——消费者。可是，当政府从私人市场经济征收资源，它正是无视了消费者的需求；当政府投资某个财货，它这样做为的是服务于政府官僚的兴致，而不是消费者的欲求。因此，任何政府开支都不能被看作是真正的“投资”，任何政府所有的资产也都不能看作是资本。
2. 补贴和转移支付
转移支付或者补贴，强制性地惩罚有效率的人，而使无效率的人获益，因而扭曲了市场。（即便对于补贴前有效率的企业或者个人也是如此，因为其活动现在受到鼓励偏离了它们最为经济的点。）
补贴延长了无效率企业的生命，阻碍了市场为了满足消费者需求而应当具备的灵活性。政府补贴规模越大，市场运作也就越受到阻碍，越多资源被冻结在无效率的地方，每个人的生活水平会比不干预要低。
此外，政府干预、补贴得越多，就会在社会中创造越多的阶层冲突，因为个人和群体只有牺牲他人才能获利。税收和补贴的过程覆盖越广，便会引诱越多的人放弃生产，加入到靠强制征收生产过活的大军。随着精力从生产转向政治，随着政府在一个正在缩小的生产基础上增加日益加重的养活国家特权阶级的负担，生产和生活水平会渐次降低。这一过程会不断加速，因为在任何活动当中成功的人往往是最善于做该项活动的人。因此，市场上最为兴旺发达的，往往会是最具有生产和服务同胞的能力的人；那些在政治当中争夺补贴十分成功的，则会是最善于实行强制或赢得实施强制者的偏爱的人。
直接转移补贴的常见例子是政府济贫。政府济贫是明确的对贫困的补贴，因为现在人们由于他们的贫穷，自动有权从国家取得货币。所以，休闲所放弃的收入的边际负效用减少，懒散和贫困趋于进一步增加，这反过来又增加了必须从纳税人处榨取的补贴数量。因此，法律规定补贴贫困的体系，往往会加重它本来要缓解的贫困。
类似地，政府的失业救济，往往旨在消除失业，但恰恰造成了相反的后果；它补贴和强化了失业。
3. 资源使用型活动
政府“服务”既可以免费提供，也可以出售给使用者。“免费”服务最具有政府特色，例子有警察和军事保护，消防，教育，公园以及供水。
这里要注意的一点是，这些服务不是，也不可能是真正免费的。因为免费的财货将不会是财货，因此不是人的行动的对象；它仅仅极为充裕地面向所有人存在。如果一财货并不对所有人都充裕，资源就是稀缺的，要供给它就需要社会放弃其他财货。所以它不可能免费。供给免费政府服务所需要的资源，是从其他生产活动中征收而来。不过，使用者并不根据他们的自愿购买而支付税金，税是对纳税人强制征收的。支付与获取服务因此被割裂开来，这是所有政府活动的内在特性。
两者的割裂，以及“免费”服务，引发了许多严重的后果。它们刺激起了人们对该财货巨大的、过度的需求，远远超过了可得的服务供给。于是，免费财货总会出现“短缺”，人们一直抱怨它的供给不足，人满为患，等等。
人们不断抱怨警力不足（尤其在犯罪高发地带），公立学校体系内的教师与学校短缺，政府所有的道路和高速公路拥堵不堪等等都是例证。
而在自由市场上，消费者能够决定价格，因此确保了生产性资源有最好的配置来满足他们的需求。
政府所面对的无法克服的分配难题，甚至在它自己看来都难以满意地解决。因此，政府会遇到这样的问题：应该是在A地还是B地修建公路？它做决策根本没有任何理性的依据。它无法以最好的方式帮助公路的私人消费者。它只能根据当权的政府官员的喜好来做出决定，也就是说，它需要依靠政府官员（而非公众）的“消费”。政府要做最有益于公众的事情，是一项不可能的任务。
4. 政府基于“商业原则”运作的谬误
任何可以想见的政府经营方案都存在致命的缺陷，阻止它理性定价和有效分配资源。由于这一缺陷，政府经营绝不可能基于“商业”原则运作，不论政府对此有多么大的热情。
这一致命缺陷是什么呢？政府通过强制征税的权力，几乎可以取得无限的资源（即只受到社会总资源的限制）。私人企业必须从私人投资者那里获得资金。这一投资者所做的资金分配，基于他们的时间偏好和远见，将资金和资源“配给”到最有利润、因此服务性最强的用途。私人企业只能够从消费者和投资者获取资金；换言之，他们只能从那些看重并且购买他们服务的人，以及为了预期的利润、愿意承担投资储蓄资金的风险的人那里获取资金。但相反，政府可以取得它想要的任何数量货币。
私人企业只能从满足的、评值好的消费者，以及受到当前和预期未来盈亏所指引的投资者那里获取资金。政府则可以随意获取更多资金。没有了约束，政府也就不可能理性地分配资源。
此外，组建政府企业对私人企业构成了“不公平”的竞争优势，因为它至少有一部分资本是通过强制而非服务取得。
相关讨论者提供了许多“标准”来指导政府服务定价。但成本在事实上不是静态，而是动态的；它们根据价格变动，所以不能用于指导定价。此外，价格只有在最终均衡中等于平均成本，且均衡不能被认为是真实世界的理想。市场只是趋向这个目标。最后，政府运作的成本会高于自由市场上的相似运作。
另外，政府授予某一方垄断特权后，它可能走向相对于免费服务的另一个极端；它可能会收取垄断价格。这将再度扭曲资源，人为地造成某个具体财货的稀缺状态。
但是，消除一家本质上必然无效率的政府运营的亏损，并不意味着它就走上了商业模式。垄断价格会给类似邮政服务的使用者添加额外的负担，特别是垄断是强制性的时候。
5. 经济计算混乱的中心
一个卡特尔或者一家企业不可能拥有经济中的所有生产手段，因为它不能以理性的方式计算价格并分配要素。这就是为什么国家社会主义同样无法理性地计划或者分配的原因。
没有政府企业能够以理性的、福利最大化的方式决定价格或者成本，分配要素或者资金。没有政府企业能够基于“商业原则”组建，即便有这样的欲求。因此，任何政府运作都在经济当中注入了一个混乱点；而且，由于所有市场在经济当中都有相互联系，每个政府活动都会干扰和扭曲定价、要素分配以及消费/投资比率等等。每个政府企业不仅通过强制将资金分配到不同于公众所需要的目的，因而降低了消费者的社会效用；它也通过扭曲市场，传播经济计算上的混乱而降低了每个人的效用（包括某些政府官员的效用）。政府所有权的程度越高，这个影响的威力也就越大。
6. 冲突与命令中心
除了纯粹的经济后果以外，政府所有权社会还有另一种影响；它必然用冲突取代自由市场的和谐。
对于所有那些被迫直接或间接地为政府服务付钱的人，他们的欲求得不到满足。政府机构只能或只会生产某些形式的服务。所以，政府经营在居民当中造成了严重的阶级冲突，因为每个人对于服务的最好形式都意见不一。最终，政府企业不得不将自己的价值观，或者某些顾客的价值观强加给其他所有的人。
政府没有办法解决冲突。它只能强制性地推行某一个群体的意志，其他人则没有得到满足，心中不悦。而在自由市场上就不存在这种冲突，因为它提供各种类型人们所需的服务。因此，政府（与私人相对立）提供服务显然会降低很大部分人口的生活水平。
国家掌握的关键的命令中心包括防卫、货币（铸币以及当代的纸币发行），河道与海岸，街道，高速公路，通常还有土地，以及邮局。但其中容易被忽略的一个关键命令中心（虽然并非总是完全垄断）是教育。
政府办学得以影响年轻一代的心智，让他们接受政府赖以生存的理由，以及政府干预的原则。义务教育将那些不想要或者不能从学校获益的人搬到了学校，强迫他们放弃与此竞争的领域的活动，比如休闲和接受企业雇佣。
7. “公共”所有权的谬误
政府所有权通常被称为“公共”所有权（“公共土地”、“公共学校”、“公共部门”）。它暗示的是，当政府拥有某样东西时，公众当中的每个成员，都对于那个财产拥有均等的权益。但是，我们已经知道，所有权重要的特征，并不在于法律形式，而在于实际的规则；在政府所有权下，实施控制和指挥的是政府官僚，他们因此“拥有”那个财产。任何“公众”的一员，如果认为自己拥有该财产的话，不妨尝试去占有他自己应得的那部分政府财产，将之用于自己的目的——这样他便可以亲身验证这一理论。
尽管政府的统治者拥有“公共”财产，但他们并不能确保长期的所有权，因为他们总有可能在选举中失利或者被罢免。所以，政府官员往往会把自己看作是“公共”资源暂时的所有者。私人所有者稳定低拥有他的财产及其资本价值，所以他可以在未来较长的时段计划如何使用自己的资源；而相反，政府官员必须尽快低利用“他的”财产，因为他没有稳定的持有权。
政府官员拥有当前的资源使用权，但不拥有它们的资本价值。但是，如果一种资源本身是无法所有的，而只能拥有当前的用益权，那么这种资源就会快速地、非经济地耗竭，因为长期保存这种资源不对任何人有利，快速将之用尽符合每个所有者的利益。
私人有稳定的资本所有权，着眼于维护他的资源的资本价值，所以有需要做出长期的规划。相反，赚一笔钱就走的正是政府官员，他们必须在他还能控制的时候迅速地榨取财产。
8. 社会保障
有一种形式的政府开支惊人地流行：“社会保障”。社会保障征收挣工资者的收入，然后——大多数人以为——它比他们更明智地将这笔钱投资，等挣工资者老了之后将钱返还给他们。这种做法被认为是“社会保险”。
在自由市场上，任何有需要的人都可以投资于年金或者股票或者房地产。强迫每个人都将自己的资金转让给政府迫使他损失了效用。
这个方案的真实本质与大众的观感大相径庭。政府并不将它从税收中取得的资金投资出去，而只是将它们花掉，给了自己许多自己的债券，它所许诺的利益到期时将之变现。当然，要变现就只有进一步征税。因此，为了获得社会保障这一笔支付，公众必须向政府支付两次。这个方案本质上只是为了使向低收入、工资阶层普遍征税显得更容易接受罢了。
9. 计划经济
当政府所有权或者控制，拓展到整个经济体系时，那个经济体系便叫做社会主义。计划经济，简而言之，是国家废除市场，强制性地垄断整个生产领域。
在那些对经济学无知的人看来，市场的方式也许只是无政府的混乱状态，而政府的方式才算得上是真正的组织以及“计划”。事实恰恰相反。市场具有一种惊人的、灵活的机制，来满足所有个人的需要。而国家运作或者干预，效率要低得多，自身便创造了许多干扰性的、积累性的问题。
尽管在计划中不可避免地遇到巨大的浪费麻烦，仍然可以参考世界市场进行出售和购买，因此至少可以通过从外界市场的情况进行推算，大致接近于生产者财货的某种理性定价。相比一个世界性的计划经济完全的计算混乱，现在这种部分的计划经济所导致的世人皆知的混乱和错误还是小巫见大巫。
由于每个人本质上（如果不总是法律上）是自我所有者和自我行为者——即自我激发器，这也就意味着，武力和暴力支持下的计划经济，有效地禁止所有个人做他们最想做，或者他们认为自己最适合做的事情。
这点引出了计划另一个严重的缺陷：发明、创新、技术发展本质上、定义上是不可能预先预测的，因此也不可能受到中央的、官僚主义的计划。人们不仅不知道何时会发明何物；他们也不知道谁会有创造发明。
显然，一个中央禁止的经济，在任何时间，对于给定的目的和给定的手段及技术来说，都是非常的非理性、无效率，尤其是当社会希望出现发明和新的发展时，它变得更为力不从心。官僚主义在计划静态经济体系时就已足够差劲，就更不用说去计划一个进步经济了。

In order to fully accept Bitcoin as a peaceful, nonviolent social revolution, we must also acknowledge and address its negative aspects.
Every day, we walk a fine line called fear. On one side is terror, which can manipulate us by influencing our choices on a subconscious level. On the other side is awareness, which comes from freedom and knowledge.
Even with Bitcoin, we should not limit ourselves to seeing only its "revolutionary" and positive aspects. We must also recognize its potential downsides, such as its instrumental use in sensitive geopolitical contexts.
Ultimately, Bitcoin can be a powerful tool for freedom, but only if it is accompanied by deep awareness and authentic knowledge.
I remember what the Cypherpunk manifesto tells us:
There is a crucial difference between secrecy and privacy.
> Secrecy is imposition, concealment, and opacity. A secret is something we don't want anyone to know, so we hide it.
> Privacy, on the other hand, is self-determination, protection, personal dignity, and the freedom to choose what to share and with whom.
Bitcoin can be a tool for conscious privacy if used with integrity.
However, it can also be bent to the logic of power, exploitation, or authoritarianism.
Ultimately, it is up to us to choose which side of history we want to be on.
