I think anyone who has been here for a while is feeling this way these days. I genuinely cannot tell you how many times I’ve updated our NIP-11 json only to have the standard change a month later. I don’t even think most clients use it at this point.

Ok - I’ll admit even I don’t know how to properly setup my relays in Amethyst to work the way we would like.
nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z if I wanted to use Amethyst with filter as an aggregator/broadcaster relay, nostr.wine as my main relay, and inbox.nostr.wine for DMs - how would I set this up?
I know inbox.nostr.wine goes in DM Inbox Relays but I’m sure about the other two.
I need to read from and broadcast everything to filter.nostr.wine (except DMs, maybe?). My followers should read my posts from nostr.wine only (not filter since its pay to read).
Since nostr.wine is pay to write, it won’t work perfectly as a “Public Inbox Relay”. Since filter.nostr.wine aggregates from several free relays, should I put some of those in Public Inbox Relays? Would Amethyst then read notes directly from those relays because I want to avoid that for spam prevention.

I use exclusively nostr.wine, inbox.nostr.wine, and filter.nostr.wine on Damus and besides the AUTH race condition issue it works perfectly and has for years. Also works perfectly with Nostur. I used to test it in Amethyst regularly and had no issues there either.
Unfortunately, I have never used a web client that actually worked well for me.

Ok - glad we are making some progress. And it is true I don’t have inbox relays configured because I still use primarily Damus and prefer to keep receiving NIP-04 DMs 😂
We will try to put together some setup guides for clients. There is a lot we can do to simplify things but it still won’t work perfectly on every client. Some clients still don’t implement AUTH correctly, others do not honor your relay choices, others don’t publish notes to the right relays, etc etc.
I’ll investigate some clients and see if I can come up with something easier.

为什么微信这么垃圾的软件会在中国成为主流？

我提一点大家可能没想到的原因，我认为中国PC+互联网的发展和智能手机的发展时间高度重合，导致了微信这种怪物的普及。
在分析之前，抛一个问题，你们觉得为什么美国人喜欢用电子邮件沟通，而国内基本上都是即时通讯？
拿美国的数据对比，我先列几个我查到的中美数据：
表格做的比较丑，大家轻点吐槽哈哈。
我们先来看几个比较重要的点：
1. 1997年中国家庭电脑普及率仅0.8%，美国高达55%，差距近70倍。
2. 2000年中国电脑普及率2.45%，仍不足美国同期（65%）的1/25。
3. 2008年：中国网民规模超越美国，但电脑普及率（28.1%）仅为美国（83%）的1/3。
没列进表里的数据：
中国2015年12月，网民6.88亿人，普及率50.3%，普及率首超50%，手机网民占比90.1%。
再给几个关键的数字：
大众普及的第一台智能手机，应该是苹果手机，2007年发布。
此时中国互联网普及率美国互联网普及率16%，电脑普及率20%。
而此时美国互联网普及率76%，电脑普及率81%。
什么概念？美国几乎每个家庭都有电脑，几乎每个家庭都开始上网。
并且，从2000开始这两个数据就已经超越50%。
什么意思呢？就是在苹果手机出现以前，美国的PC互联网以及发展了10年以上，50%普及率已经超过7年。
而中国互联网普及率直到2015年才超过50%，落后美国15年。
另一组数字：
2024年中国电脑综合使用率（68.2%）仍低于发达国家（美国约90%），主因手机对基础上网需求的全面替代。
而且，从2010年开始，互联网普及率开始超过电脑普及率，说明移动设备上网开始崛起。
国产第一台智能手机，可以算是魅族M8，2009年发布。
4. 2011年1月21日：微信1.0版本正式发布，最初仅支持iPhone用户，功能包括文字、图片和头像分享。
5. 2011年5月10日：微信2.0版本发布，新增语音对讲功能。
6. 2011年8月：微信用户突破1500万，新增“查看附近的人”功能。
最早的手机QQ诞生于2003年，当时大多数手机还是功能机，操作系统为塞班系统，软件界面较为单一，主要功能是好友在线聊天。
小结一下：
①美国在智能手机出现以前，电脑普及率就非常高了（81%+），几乎家家都有电脑，互联网普及率也非常高（76%）。
②而中国在智能手机出现的时候（2007年），电脑普及率就很低（20%），互联网普及率也只有16%。
注意，这两个结论非常重要。
看到这里，我想聪明的人已经想到我要表达的意思了。
根据上面的数据，我们可以推出另外几条结论：
①美国绝大部分人群使用PC上网的时间超过7年，绝大部分人在手机出现之前已经习惯了使用PC登录互联网。
②智能手机出现之后，因为电脑普及率低的原因，中国依然有大量人口完全没接触过PC。
因此，国内的目前网民数量虽然非常高，绝大部分人是通过智能手机链接互联网的，而非PC。
因此，美国乃至西方发达国家的互联网发展模式是这样的：
在智能手机出现以前，各网站已经比较完善，发展的非常充分，功能也比较实用（比如Facebook），因为没有智能手机，即时通讯没有那么强烈的需求（只有人们坐在电脑前才能联系彼此），人们习惯用email沟通。手机出现后，各种app最主要的目的，是将电脑的功能搬至手机端，即时通讯的需求满足后，其他需求（工作、个人blog）依然可以通过电脑进行。
而中国的互联网发展模式是这样的：
智能手机出现的时候，PC也并没有普及，绝大部分人都不用用PC联络，甚至很多人都没有碰过电脑，于是很多人首先接触的智能设备就是手机。即时通讯因为智能手机发展的原因，迅速占领了手机端，而此时国人并没有形成通过PC办公、沟通联系的习惯，个人博客也只是昙花一现，微信则通过QQ的优势，迅速占领了手机生态位，同时期的移动飞信等软件也没有打过微信，微信最初的吸引点也只是可以免除很多话费。
于是，微信形成了一家独大的局面，像Facebook这种普及率很高的个人blog最初都是在PC上发展的，是以网站为基础的，但在国内就完全没有了生存土壤，早期的校内网改名人人后也没有抵过手机端发展的浪潮，因为PC发展的黄金时期已经过去了。
所以，目前国内是缺乏Facebook这样的网站和社交软件的。
截至2024年1月，Facebook在美国的普及率为70%，拥有2.435亿用户。这意味着大约70%的美国人口使用Facebook。
这是一个多么牛逼的数据，但是我们已经没有了这种网站的生存土壤。
网站生存的土壤是PC，但是PC现在大多用于办公或者娱乐，社交基本上没有了。
总的来说，我觉得这个是比较靠谱的原因。
但可能并不是回答为什么腾讯比QQ还反人类的，而是回答，为什么国内会形成微信即时通讯这种工具垄断的局面，或者为什么微信会像现在这样无孔不入吧。
我个人觉得，微信是真的不好用，主要的几个罪状：
①聊天数据占内存太臃肿。
②朋友圈无法分组查看。
③群聊功能太难使用。
④相较于QQ空间，朋友圈展示的维度太低。
其他大家提到的很多问题，都或多或少存在着。
是真的不如QQ好用，奈何占据了这样的生态位，并且丝毫没有更新功能的意愿和态度。
