Sorry, but today the sun is not out for Bitcoin.
A few Core Devs gaslit and steamrolled their way into merging a pull request that was vehemently opposed and not even well-supported by "Core Devs" at large.
Rather than showing the clear opposition (the "nays" / NACKs) as was usual for prior PRs the summary was changed to only show the "ayes" (ACKs). This disingenuous move made it look like the PR was entirely supported. Amazingly, after approving, the PR now shows the ACKs AND NACKs.
Reading through the details in the PR shows a very different story.

Is this the day Bitcoin begins to die? I surely hope not (although "hope" was a word used repeatedly as reasoning for why this PR would actually benefit Bitcoin, as in "we hope this will work").
FWIW, 3% of Core Devs wrote an open letter expressing their opinion (obviously having permission to the Core website), with little-to-no proper debate that includes the majority in dissent.
It's time to take a serious look at the Bitcoin Core process before it becomes a worldwide virtual government organization. Who is paying Gloria Zhao (Chaincode)? Who is paying Peter Todd as he defends Citrea as the primary use case for the change, citing concerns for "millions of dollars of [VC] funding" (his words), and appeasing large mining companies?
How are we not seriously concerned about this? "GM" has now replaced "how 'bout that game last night".

It's the information age and we are still fighting religious wars.
I don't really expect the dogmatists to figure it out. Seriously. These people are capable of harboring incredible levels of cognitive dissonance. Imagine thinking that killing people from other religions is appropriate when your religion teaches to love your neighbor as yourself.
If all of the non-dogmatists could kindle the fire underneath their asses and figure out that every religious tradition is both heavily distorted AND contains the same core cosmological truths as all the others, that would be a great start.

In retrospect, it was obvious the letter they signed was justification to merge a clearly controversial PR. It's not obvious what the second and third order effects will be, but I guarantee this will not play out the way that the signers of the letter think it will.
Happy to eat my words and say that I was wrong if a year from now if there isn't a significant growth (>100%) in large OP_RETURN outputs (>160 bytes).
I challenge any signer of the letter to provide a similar metric to measure whether what they're doing works and under what conditions they'd be willing to admit they were wrong.

Just watch how people talk about Bitcoin and freedom. No concept that they will still need to fight for their freedoms. People here on nostr have told me more than once to just buy Bitcoin if I was mad about a particular government overreach.
I'll never convince you as well as you could be convinced by simply having the idea and watching what people say.

L.A. Under Siege: Trump Sends in National Guard as Protests Continue over Militarized ICE Raids
In Los Angeles, mass street protests have broken out in response to immigration raids. Local police and Border Patrol are cracking down on protesters, while the Trump administration has called in the California National Guard. “They shot thousands of rounds of tear gas, flashbang grenades, all kinds of repressive instruments,” says Ron Gochez, community organizer with Union del Barrio who helped organize some of the protests. He notes many of the protests have also been successful at turning back immigration agents, preventing ICE arrests and detention. “If we organize ourselves, if we resist, we can defend our communities from ICE terror, from the Border Patrol or from any federal agency that wishes to separate our families.”
