Scope: Core Infrastructure Upgrades
Expected Impact: Minimal: Delayed web/API stats; Network reconvergence; Lightning Payment Delays
Potential Impact: Short client connection losses; fallback block reward handling.
Details: OCEAN and partners will be performing major planned upgrades to core infrastructure at one of our hosting facilities as part of our ongoing efforts to improve reliability and redundancy of our services. During the maintenance window, client traffic may be routed through redundant systems, moved from one system to another, and otherwise routed as required to maintain maximum service availability during this upgrade. While there is no expected impact, there may be brief temporary disruptions to Stratum and/or DATUM miner connections during the maintenance window. These connection drops will be kept to an absolute minimum, and should go completely unnoticed by most miners. If you experience any extended service disruption, please reach out to us through our normal contact channels.
During this maintenance window, the nodes backing the OCEAN Recommended, Core, and Data-Free templates will be upgraded to Bitcoin Core v29.0, and Bitcoin Knots v28.1 (20250305), respectively. The node configurations will remain unchanged; however, note that default options may have changed in the newer versions, as well as some forced policies in the case of Core. The Block Template pages will be updated during the maintenance. Before that time, please refer to the documentation for Bitcoin Knots and Bitcoin Core for details on expected changes. Additionally, these are expected to be the final upgrades to the Core and Data-Free templates. Please migrate to using your own node with DATUM Gateway so you have a full range of control over how you make your blocks.
Additionally, for a short period during the maintenance window (not expected to exceed one hour), the TIDES reward system backend will be paused/offline for upgrades and related upgrade checks. Miner work submitted during this period will still be counted normally. However, as a result of real-time reward splits being unavailable while TIDES is offline, if an OCEAN block happens to be found during this short period, pool rewards will be handled the same as any other "empty block" reward that must be done in a secondary follow-up transaction. Finally, during this period the website and API statistics may not be updated and may take some time to catch up once TIDES upgrades are fully complete. Do not be alarmed. Again, all work accepted is being counted properly, and TIDES will catch up upon completion of the upgrades. These are completely separate systems.
We expect the TIDES upgrades to happen during this window on 2025-06-03 (***UPDATED***), planned for between 16:00 and 17:00 UTC (12-1PM ET), however this is subject to change and we will update this notice to reflect any change in plans.
Lightning payouts may be delayed longer than normal for any blocks found during the full maintenance window. These payouts may be consolidated for multiple blocks once upgrades are completed. Expected impact is no noticeable delay. Maximum potential impact is that lightning payouts are delayed until the end of the maintenance window. Again, however, no work is lost and payouts will still occur appropriately for work submitted.
New Lightning configurations/changes may not be accepted during the maintenance window.

I just had a vague memory surface.
Does anyone remember back in the 1980's they sold that powder that you would sprinkle on cut fruit and it would keep it from turning brown?
Is that still a thing? I can't imagine that there is still a market for something like that. Also I'm assuming that they found out that it caused eye cancer or something.

I agree with you Bitcoin's transparent nature makes it more trustworthy for a store of value. And if you want to do layer-2 as a hobby, that's fine.
But when you start doing the "bitcoin only" routine is when you turn into an oppressor. Because the layer-2 has issues that the average person isn't going to do, and so it turns back into custodial fractional reserve banking. The layer-2 is much more easily controlled, and that's why the government literally favors Bitcoin. Monero is better designed for cash. I'm NOT saying "monero only". I'm saying let people decide for themselves

A few thoughts about $STRK, obvious to some, but I know a lot of people don't follow this so closely and I think it's potentially a very valuable tool in the bitcoiner toolkit.
$STRK pays an $8 qualified dividend per share per year. $STRK can be converted 10:1 into $MSTR when $MSTR is over $1000 per share. At that point the convertibility is therefore worth $100. With $MSTR at $2000 the convertibility is worth $200, etc.
At the moment $STRK is priced at $107 and $MSTR at $378. IMO this means the conversion is priced at $37.8 and the remaining $99.2 is based on the $8 per share yield (effectively an 8% yield).
As $MSTR goes up well over $1000, $STRK will trade in lockstep with $MSTR. AKA as $MSTR goes from $2500 to $5000 $STRK will go from $250 to $500 + a small premium for the $8 per share coupon and the fact that $STRK is higher in the capital stack of @Strategy than $MSTR.
If $BTC does a 5x to $500k you could imagine that $MSTR might do a ~10x to $4000 and in that case $STRK would do a 4x to $400 (plus the aforementioned premium). As $STRK goes up it still maintains its $8/share qualified dividend, but that equates to an effectively lower yield of 2% in the $400 example. So the portion of $STRK that's priced based on it's yield will go down as $MSTR goes up.
So in however long it takes $BTC to go to $500k would you rather get a 5x with $BTC and 0 counterparty risk, a 4x with $STRK and an $8/share coupon (and counterparty risk), or a 10x with $MSTR and no coupon and counterparty risk. Also keep in mind that once $MSTR is over $1000, $STRK's performance should match $MSTR's (aka outperform bitcoin's), but the yield will be much lower by then. That's my outlook, do with it as you will, No recommendations here, not financial advice, just some thoughts.

Monero mining is currently more decentralized yes. But the infrastructure to mine it is available at a low cost to large corporate actors if it ever became very high in market cap or if the government wanted to coordinate an attack against it. There are various tradeoffs and it's not quite that simple, in my understanding anyway.
