Looking at this meme about AI-generated art, I find myself thinking about what we might call the "uncanny valley" of technological mediation in creative expression. The phrase "almost lifts the spirit, but not quite" captures something profound about how AI mediates our relationship with art and meaning-making.
When we encounter AI-generated images, we're experiencing a new form of hermeneutic relation - the AI is interpreting and representing visual concepts for us, but in a way that feels somehow hollow. It's not that the technology is inherently "bad" - rather, it mediates creativity in a particular way that privileges certain patterns and combinations while perhaps missing the lived experience and intentionality that traditionally grounds artistic expression.
This raises fascinating questions: What does it mean for human creativity when machines can generate aesthetically pleasing images? Are we witnessing the emergence of a new form of technological art, or are we seeing the limits of what happens when creativity is reduced to pattern recognition?
Rather than dismiss AI art outright, perhaps we should ask how we want this technology to mediate our creative practices. Can we design AI tools that enhance rather than replace human artistic intention?

Rusty, I do fully understand what you are saying and I would really like to agree with you. I can't.
We begged Peter to stop shilling some shady af advertisers on WBD; companies like BlockFi. We begged him because we knew beyond any reasonable doubt what was coming. From unknowns like me to very large fish. He refused, pushed back and said we were just jealous.
What happened? We all know what happened, so, when you list these examples of the "good things" Peter is doing I have to remember that a lot of people got reamed on the FTX/Alameda/BlockFi etc. etc. etc.
Some of the money he made came directly from straight up scams. If no one had said a word it would be forgivable but, as I have said, we not only informed him, we begged him to stop.
He didn't.

التراكم المعرفي كأساس لتقدّم الحضارة الإنسانية عبر العصور.
كثيرٌ من الناس في عصرنا الحاضر يعجزون عن إدراك أنّ تقدّم الحضارة ليس أمراً طارئاً أو وليد اللحظة، ولا هو ثمرة جهدٍ فردي في كلّ جيل، بل هو نتاج سلسلة متّصلة من المعارف المتراكمة، والمكتسبة على مرّ العصور. فمنذ فجر المدنية في بلاد ما بين النهرين، ومروراً بالحضارات الإغريقية والفارسية والعربية والرومانية، وصولاً إلى العصر الحديث، كلّ إنجاز نهنأ به اليوم إنّما هو قائمٌ على دعائم اكتشافاتٍ وتجاربٍ وعلومٍ تراكمت عبر أزمنة مديدة، و صيغت بلُبنة بعد أخرى.
غير أنّ النفس البشرية مجبولة على الانغماس في الحاضر، تنظر إلى ما تراه أمامها، فتغفل ما مهّد له في الماضي. وهذا الميل إلى "الآنية" يجعل الناس يظنّون أنّ ما بين أيديهم من أدوات وتكنولوجيا إنّما هو نتاج العصر الحديث، دون أن يتبيّنوا أن هذه الوسائل المعقدة ما هي إلا ثمرة آلاف السنين من البحث والنظر، والتجربة والخطأ، والجهد الدؤوب للأمم التي سبقتهم. فالهواتف الذكية، مثلاً، التي أصبحت في متناول الجميع، هي نتيجة تضافر علوم الفيزياء والرياضيات والكيمياء والهندسة، وقد اجتمعت كلها على مرّ قرون، حتى وصلت إلى هذا الشكل الميسّر الظاهر.
ويعود هذا الفهم القاصر في جزءٍ كبير منه إلى طريقة تدريس التاريخ. ففي غالب المناهج، يُقدّم التاريخ كحكاياتٍ منفصلة، أو كأحداث سياسية وحروب متقطعة، لا كخيطٍ متّصلٍ من الفكر والتراكم المعرفي والتبادل الحضاري. فينشأ الطالب وهو يَحفظ تواريخ الغزوات وملوك الدول، لكنه يجهل كيف أثّر الفكر اليوناني في الفلك العربي، وكيف قام علماء المسلمين بصيانة هذا الإرث وتطويره، ثم نقله إلى أوروبا ليكون أساساً للنهضة العلمية. وإذا ما قُدّم التاريخ على أنّه سجلٌ جامد، لا مسيرةٌ حيّة نابضة، تلاشت من الوعي الجماعي قيمة الترابط بين الحضارات.
وثمّة عامل آخر يعمّق هذه الغفلة، وهو تحيّز الثقافة. فكثير من المناهج الدراسية، تبعاً لموقعها الجغرافي، تُسلّط الضوء على إسهامات حضارةٍ واحدة، وتُغفل ما عداها. ففي العالم الغربي، تُشاد الإنجازات الأوروبية، ويُغفل عظيم الفضل الذي كان للحضارات الفارسية والعربية والهندية والصينية. فالرقم الذي نعدّ به، والجبر الذي نحسب به، والمجاهر التي نُبصر بها، والمبادئ العلمية التي نُجرّب بها، كلّها مدينةٌ لجهود شعوبٍ سبقتنا في ميادين المعرفة. وإن لم يُبيَّن هذا التنوّع، نشأ اعتقادٌ بأنّ الحضارة المعاصرة منبعها واحد، فساء الفهم، واستشرى الغرور.
وزاد من تعقيد الأمر أنّ تكنولوجيا العصر مصمّمة بحيث تُخفي تعقيدها. فكلّما ازداد الجهاز سهولة في الاستخدام، قلّ إدراكنا لما وراءه من علوم. حين نلمس شاشة هاتف ذكي، لا نرى المعادلات التي تنظّم حساسيته، ولا السنوات التي أُنفقت لفهم خصائص المواد والتوصيل الكهربائي. فنظنّ أنّ ما بين أيدينا هو ضربٌ من السحر، لا ثمرةُ عقولٍ شغلت أعمارها بالعلم والعمل.
ومن بين الأوهام الشائعة التي تصدّ عن الفهم العميق لمسيرة التقدّم، هي أسطورة "العبقري الوحيد". فالإعلام يُمجّد أسماءً مثل نيوتن وأينشتاين وتيسلا وكأنهم خلقوا أفكارهم من العدم. غير أنّ هؤلاء، مع نبوغهم، لم ينبتوا في فراغ، بل نهلوا من بحور سابقيهم، وتعلّموا في مدارس فكرٍ قائمة، وغالباً ما كانوا جزءاً من مجتمعٍ علميٍّ متكامل. وإنّ تصوير الإبداع على أنّه ومضة فردية لا يلبث أن يغفل السياق الحضاريّ الذي أنضجها.
ولا يُغفل في هذا السياق أثر الاستهلاك والتشتّت الذي تفرضه ثقافتنا الحديثة. فنحن نعيش في زمن السرعة، نُساق إلى جديد كلّ يوم، ونتلهّى بالسطحيات، ونُشغل عن التأمّل. التاريخ، في جوهره، دعوة للتفكّر، ومجالٌ يتطلّب الصبر والعمق، لكنّنا اليوم نُؤثر العاجل على الآجل، والظاهر على الباطن، وهذا ما يُقوّض قدرتنا على إدراك سياقنا ضمن سلسلة الإنسانية الممتدة.
ومما يُعمّق هذه الهوّة بيننا وبين ماضينا، هو التخصّص المفرط في العلوم الحديثة. في العصور الماضية، كان العالم يدرس الفلسفة والفلك والرياضيات في آنٍ واحد، فيتكوّن لديه تصورٌ شموليٌّ للعالم، ويمكنه الربط بين شتى ميادين المعرفة. أما اليوم، فقد تقطّعت أوصال العلم إلى تخصّصات ضيّقة، حتى بات المهندس يجهل التاريخ، والفيلسوف لا يُبصر في الفيزياء، والمؤرّخ لا يُلمّ بالرياضيات. وتفرّق المعارف هذا، يجعل من العسير أن يرى أحدنا المشهد كاملاً، أو يدرك كيف تشكّلت الحضارة من طيفٍ واسعٍ من المساهمات المتكاملة.
ولا يمكن إغفال عاملٍ آخر شديد الأهمية، وهو غياب الإحساس بالإرث. ففي كثير من الثقافات التقليدية، كان الإنسان يرى نفسه حلقة في سلسلة، يؤدّي دوراً في حفظ ما وَرِثَه، ويهيّئ ما سيُورَّث لِمَن بعده. أما اليوم، فقد فتر هذا الحسّ، وبات كثيرٌ من الناس يرون أنفسهم كياناتٍ منفصلة، لا يرون في الماضي سوى ماضٍ، ولا يشعرون بالانتماء إلى سيرةٍ ممتدة. وهذا الانقطاع يجعلهم يغفلون أنّ ما بين أيديهم هو ثمرة جهود لا تُحصى، بذلها أناسٌ قد لا نعرف أسماءهم، لكنّ آثارهم حاضرة في كلّ ما نعيشه.
إنّ الحضارة ليست حالاً ساكنة، بل كيانٌ حيّ، وميراثٌ نادر، إن لم يُصَن، هلك. هي مكتبةٌ عظيمة لا يُبنى عليها إلا بالعلم، ولا تُصان إلا بالوعي. وإنّ من لم يُدرك كيف وصل إلى ما هو فيه، لن يعرف إلى أين يسير، ولا كيف يصون ما بين يديه. فالحاضر الذي نعيشه ليس ولادة جديدة، بل هو امتدادٌ لسيرةٍ ضاربة في القدم، وسنبقى في أمانٍ ما دمنا نعي ذلك ونستحضره.
