A joint action between the Federal Police and the Bolivian Special Force against Crime, Bolivia, arrested Marcos Roberto de Almeida, known as Tuta, on Friday, 16th, who was one of the main leaders of the First Capital Command (PCC). He was a fugitive and was officially arrested for using a fake document in the city of Santa Cruz de La Sierra. In 2020, Tuta was identified as the main leader of the PCC outside of prison and was referred to as 'new Marcola' by prosecutor Lincoln Gakya, an expert in combating the criminal faction. The Federal Police did not officially confirm the identity of the arrested person, but a source within the agency told Estadão that it was Tuta. His identity was confirmed biometrically on Saturday morning. The official liaison of the agency in Santa Cruz de La Sierra is negotiating the procedures for extraditing the criminal to Brazil. 'The individual remains in the custody of Bolivian authorities, awaiting confirmation of his identity and legal procedures that may result in his expulsion or extradition to Brazil,' the Federal Police said in their official statement on Friday night. According to the agency, Tuta is on the Interpol Red Notice List, 'which motivated the intensification of efforts to locate and capture him.' As reported, Tuta and three others were convicted in February 2024 by the São Paulo Justice Court for criminal association and money laundering. Of the four, he was the only one who was at large and did not serve his 12-year and six-month sentence. The conviction occurred after a denunciation by the São Paulo State Public Ministry (MP-SP) in the context of Operation Sharks. The group had moved over R$ 1 billion to the PCC. Tuta was the target of a preventive arrest warrant in September 2023, but was not found. A subsequent investigation, which gained strength after the death of informant Antônio Vinícius Gritzbach last year, indicated that military police officers had received money to prevent Tuta's arrest - he was on the list of beneficiaries of information about operations leaked in advance by the police. According to the São Paulo Military Police Corregedoria, the PCC managed to infiltrate the Rota (Rondas Ostensivas Tobias de Aguiar) and other units of the agency. According to the MP-SP, Tuta occupied the position of 'final synchronization on the street', being responsible for controlling the sectors of the faction linked to drug trafficking. He was accused of money laundering from drug trafficking with the rental of a high-end house in Santana do Parnaíba, the purchase of two houses in Peruíbe, the acquisition of three properties in São Paulo, as well as the purchase of a farm in Araçatuba and apartments in Santos.

As long as it's financially more rational to spend fiat, that's what we should expect rational people to do - even hardcore bitcoiners. Even someone using nostr:npub1ex7mdykw786qxvmtuls208uyxmn0hse95rfwsarvfde5yg6wy7jq6qvyt9 to live 'bitcoin only' (like nostr:npub1cn4t4cd78nm900qc2hhqte5aa8c9njm6qkfzw95tszufwcwtcnsq7g3vle) is going to have a credit card that allows them to pay in fiat and earn a % or 2 in rewards.
Presumably, the service SteakNShake is using charges them a fee to convert their bitcoin sales into fiat. Until merchants start actually valuing bitcoin for themselves - and offer a discount for bitcoin purchases (at least to compete with credit card rewards) instead of paying a fee to convert to fiat - gimmicks like this aren't likely to have a lasting impression.
